April Update 2026

May 9, 2026

Why / Exposing

The portfolio is finally released! After some visual and web design work, I have finally published the portfolio section of my website. This marks the start of my networking phase, because I finally have something to show professionally. I’m really excited to get closer to a new design job, so actualizing this meant a lot to me. Another neat thing I did this month was expanding my journaling system. Yes, I have a whole system for journaling.

How / Learning

And of course, editing and publishing my portfolio projects made me very conscious about my whole documentation process. I wrote a whole essay about it, maybe I’ll release it in a separate post, but the act of documenting is a whole separate discipline by itself. To actually improve such a process requires effort and time. Basically, you can design that whole process. Of course, you can design it.

I also picked up some books to deepen my knowledge of graphic design. For now, I want to strengthen my typography and layout design. This will help me reach more areas, e.g., branding, logo design, and editorial design. So I’m trying to get more standards and sensibilities from my studies. This will help me to prototype, ideate, and receive feedback more clearly and quickly. I want to reach more with my design processes.

What / Drained

Of course, the aim is to continue networking and further improving my portfolio and skill set. However, I am getting blocked by typical obstacles in life, especially my current full-time job. I am not going to rant about work, but I’m just left with so little energy to do more. There is more to life than just reaching your dreams and ambitions. My end goal is not only to become a visual designer. But as long as visual design is not my daily concern, the more it feels like I’m wasting my time. I’m still trying to match my internal mind with the outside world…
